About Seeds of Trust

What is Seed Saving?

Seed Saving is the practice of saving seed from the garden to plant for the following years. It is a form of propagation of the plants that are tried and true to your area and has been practiced by farmers through out history. While all plants can be propagated, not all plants are grown from seed.

We have been taught to take the future for granted, to know that there would always be more of everything available, including seed. The current state of the worlds economy has brought change to many things including changes in our diet, spending habits and way of life.

Seed saving is one answer to the crisis surrounding the cost of food, the quality of commercial produce and the diseases it can cause and the exposure to toxins that are used to produce such food.

With the current level of manipulation of our food supply by commercial growers, with government approval no less, most seeds you receive on the commercial market are hybrid, genetically or chemically altered or treated.

Seed Savers know the value of good seed, in that it is true to form without genetic alterations. A traditional, heirloom seed, will always produce the same plant year after year, unless naturally cross pollinated by another of the same species which is perfectly acceptable in the home garden.
